Web 2.0 - What's that?

If you don't know what Web 2.0 is, you've probably at least heard of Facebook or My Space. Web 2.0 is a level of Internet communication, collaboration, and connection between people that is interactive. These tools effectively convert Web users from passive readers of static text on Web pages to active creators of information and engaged members of online communities.

Online safety is a big deal. Here are some important tips (from Common Sense):
  • Don't share personal information like your name, school, age, or address
  • Use social networks privacy settings so only your friends can see your stuff
  • You should never send pictures to strangers
  • Passwords are private (except to parents)
  • People aren’t necessarily who they say they are in cyberspace
  • If you meet someone, it better be in a public place, with a friend
Other important information:
  1. There’s no such thing as “private” online.
  2. Use common sense when it comes to alcohol and drugs, no matter what site you're on.
  3. Be a "good digital citizen".
  4. Stay in "safe" Internet spaces.
